Flowering Flower-ring

In the last month or so, I’ve had a step-by-step article published in “Making Jewellery” magazine, which involved a flower ring…

…and also included a couple of ‘bonus’ earrings:

and they also included a picture of a purple ring as well:

Here is a scan of the cover of the magazine:

… and here is an idea of what the first page of the article looked like:

Somehow they seem to make the pieces look better than in real life!

I still haven’t got the hang of them, but I’m getting closer.

100 Days of Polymer Clay Necklaces: “83”

83 days to go until the polymer clay cruise…

I have been doing real experiments today by using some (Lisa Pavelka) ‘inkjet waterslide transfers‘. My printer is not great quality but at least I got an idea of how the transfers work. I printed out some photos of real flowers, and I also thought it would be funny to print out a photo of some polymer clay leaves so that I could make ‘fake’ polymer clay canes. Ooops though – I accidentally spilled water all over the transfers before I was ready to use them, so it became a race against time to apply them to my pieces of white clay. Because I was working so quickly I ended up with lots of bubbles underneath the images, but at least I got them to stick to the clay:

I made a sort of tiny ‘frame’ for the flower by putting layers of leaves around it:

Although it looks like I might be ‘playing it safe’ again with today’s necklace design, the difference is that the beads are at least twice the size of my normal beads, so I have actually been working outside my comfort zone:

I’ve been doing a lot of experimenting with new techniques recently, but today I felt like going back to a tried-and-tested flower design, alternating the polymer clay beads with the blue glass ones:

Today’s necklace is made from silver-plated chain, green glass beads, and pink polymer clay flower cane beads:

Today I enjoyed Polymer Clay Daily’s info about Barbara Fajardo’s work, which encouraged me to put more texture onto my flowers than I usually do (click into images for a more detailed view):

And then I made a necklace out of one of the flowers:

The colours are a bit bright for my particular taste, but I like the overall tropical effect.
