100 Days of Polymer Clay Necklaces: “65”

65 days to go until the polymer clay cruise – and here is the latest news from my “100 Days” challenge

Same type of bead as yesterday (day “66”), but a bit bigger. I’d still like to go even bigger though!

78 days to go until the polymer clay cruise – and here is the latest necklace in my “100 Days” challenge

To me this looks more like a giant earring or hair ornament than a necklace, but on the other hand it was inspired by some of the ancient necklaces that I found in the ‘World of Necklaces’ book that I borrowed from the library the other day:

100 Days of Polymer Clay Necklaces: “80”

80 days to go until the polymer clay cruise – and here is the latest news from my “100 Days” challenge

At the moment it’s quite popular for restaurants to ‘deconstruct’ traditional foods and to lay out their component parts in a new way. In view of this I have deconstructed a flower for this necklace, by stringing individual petals and berries onto some wire to make a pendant:

It took me ages to try and find a way to get the petals to overlap each other in a consistent way, and in the end I had to come up with swirly wire shapes to hang the petals from. I’ll put a photo of the back here later if possible, but in the meantime here is a closer look:

Lesson learned today? That getting petals to hang nicely from chain is impossible! Not sure I’ve got the solution to it yet, but I’m closer than I was a few hours ago…

Second lesson learned today? There is no point deconstructing a pizza or shepherd’s pie or lasagne – they are much more tasty if you make them the traditional way. Similarly, petals belong on a flower, and deconstructing them is a stoopid idea!

Although it looks like I might be ‘playing it safe’ again with today’s necklace design, the difference is that the beads are at least twice the size of my normal beads, so I have actually been working outside my comfort zone:

For today’s experiment I layered some pink canes on top of some scrap clay, cut out an oval shape with a canape cutter, mounted it in a metal bezel-thing, and then made it shiny by covering it in clear acrylic nail varnish and setting it with a UV light.

Today I enjoyed Polymer Clay Daily’s info about Barbara Fajardo’s work, which encouraged me to put more texture onto my flowers than I usually do (click into images for a more detailed view):

And then I made a necklace out of one of the flowers:

The colours are a bit bright for my particular taste, but I like the overall tropical effect.

94 days to go until the polymer clay cruise, and here is the latest effort in my 100 days of polymer clay challenge

Today I’ve been making a few flower beads. For this necklace I have just hung a large bead from some chain, and have added some dangly things to add a bit of interesting movement when the necklace is being worn (click the photo for a closer look):
