Laser-Cut Lacy Hearts

January 28, 2012 Leave a comment

This week I’ve been playing with my laser cutter and I’ve created some multi-layered lacy heart designs. I love the way the laser cutter gives really crisp edges to the designs.

They make brilliant card toppers – I’ve put some double sided tape on the back of them so that –  hey presto! – I can create instant valentine cards.

I’ve put some on ebay and etsy, in case anyone wants to buy any:

Can’t get enough of them at the moment – I’ve been making loads of them!

18 days to go until the polymer clay cruise – and here is the latest necklace in my “100 Days” challenge

Eeeek! I’ve been away on holiday and although I made a necklace a day, I didn’t have access to a camera and email facilities. So I now need to take loads of photos and update all of the missing days….

A really big bead! This one is at least 5cm across at its widest point. I quite liked it until my husband saw it. He instantly made a horror-stricken face and then covered his eyes to escape the view. Pthhhhh – back to the drawing board?

It’s a swirly heart pendant with three acrylic jewels which may or may not be covering some bubbles under the surface of the pendant:

It started life as a lentil bead like day 77, but then it went through a pasta machine on the thickest setting and had a shape cut out of it by a cookie cutter:

This time I’ve made a beaded necklace with a blue flower focal bead, with other beads dangling from it:

I wish my photography was better, because these photos make it look like a greeny-brown thing that I’ve dredged up from the bottom of a pond. But in real life it’s not that bad!

Similar design (and exactly the same technique) as yesterday (day “76”), but this time with more effort put into the chain that the pendant hangs from*.

This is definitely an improvement on yesterday’s effort because one or two of the main flowers yesterday were obscured by other parts of the design. And I quite like the diagon-ality of today’s design as well:

* or the chain from which the pendant hangs, if you prefer the gramatically-correct version:)

This heart pendant is about 5cm across and is really chunky (about 1cm at its thickest point). The inside is just scrap clay, and the outside has thin layers of flower canes etc. applied to it.

It hangs from just a plain piece of black cotton thong:
