I made a new friend today, called Sophie:
I was at the South of England Show at Ardingly, and for some reason found myself in the tent of the Bat Conservation Trust.
I spent nearly an hour there, and could easily have stayed for longer. I met a couple of Pipistrelle bats and er, whatever Sophie is (sorry, Sophie!), and discovered that loads of things that I thought I knew about bats were wrong.
And I forgot to pick up any fact sheets, which is a shame. I do remember that there was one reassuring sheet that mentioned that vampire bats “hardly ever“ drink human blood. It would have been a bit more reassuring if the sheet had said that they never drink it, but I’ll settle for hardly ever, I suppose.
