Polymer Clay Alphabet Cane Tutorial: Letter C
Here is another free step-by-step tutorial as part of a series of articles on making letter canes with polymer clay. (Click here for a list of all of the other alphabet canes.)
One day I’ll develop full tutorials with proper instructions, but in the meantime, here is a basic tutorial for creating a polymer clay cane with a letter “C” design:
Step-by-step instructions: Letter “C” polymer clay alphabet cane
You will need:
- Approx. 30g (i.e. half a standard-sized block of clay)
- Approx. 10g
- (a.k.a. polymer clay slicer blade)
Step 0: Condition the clay
Step 1: Cut off a quarter of the white clay, and put it aside for now in order to work with the larger white piece first.
Step 2: Cut the remaining (larger) white clay piece in half. Roll the two resulting white clay pieces into cylinders with diameters approximately 1.5cm wide:
Step 3: Roll the black clay into a sheet using the pasta machine. The thickness of the machine should be set to approximately 2mm thick (On most pasta machines this is the middle thickness setting.)
Step 4: Wrap one layer of the black sheet around ONE of the white cylinders. Trim off any excess black.
Step 5: Split the cane right down the middle.
Step 6: Cut the white cylinder cane in half, as well:
Step 7: Stack the two halves of the black-covered cane:
Step 8: Stack the two halves of the white cylinder:
Step 9: Put the two flat sides of the new canes together:
Step 10: Take the ‘spare’ piece of white clay that was put aside in Step 1, and roll it through the pasta machine on the thinnest setting. Wrap the thin white sheet around the cane:
