Letter X Alphabet Cane Tutorial
This Letter X alphabet cane is part of a series showing how to create polymer clay letter canes (click here for all of the other alphabet canes so far.)
The letter X is so easy that you probably don’t even need this tutorial to show you how to do it! But just in case (and just so I end up with a full set of alphabet tutorials), here it is…

Step-by-step instructions: Letter “X” cane
You will need:
- About 30g white clay (i.e. approximately half of a standard-sized block of clay) (examples. of white polymer clay from Amazon)
- Approx. 8g black clay (about an eighth of a standard block)
- Pasta machine (5 things to look for when buying pasta machines for polymer clay)
- Tissue blade or clay slicer (examples on Amazon)

Step 0: Condition the clay.
Step 1 – Roll the black clay into a sheet about 1.5mm thick (usually the middle setting of a pasta machine):

Step 2 – Cut off around a quarter of the white block of clay and save it to use later on:

Step 3 – Roll the larger piece of white clay into a cylinder about 25mm (1 inch) in diameter:

Step 4 – Cut the cylinder in half diagonally (top left to bottom right), as shown below:

Step 5 – Using the black sheet of clay from Step 1, sandwich one layer of black between the two halves of the cylinder:

Step 6 – Cut the cylinder in half diagonally the other way (top right to bottom left) as shown below:

Step 7 – Using the sheet of black clay from Step 1, insert one layer of black clay and then reassemble the cane:

Step 8 – Using the white piece of clay from Step 2, roll it through the pasta machine on the thinnest setting, and then wrap the sides of the cane with thin layers of white:

Step 9 – Reduce the cane.
